There was a lot of overdue maintenance at Kasemeni primary school. The classroom floors were very poor and had holes. The blackboards urgently needed new paint. The same applied to the buildings themselves. Gutters needed to be repaired and leaks in the roofs needed to be fixed.
There were also only five toilets for the 600 children and 12 teachers: two for the teachers and three for the girls. These toilets were in badly dilapidated condition and very unhygienic. For the boys, there were no toilets at all.
